Fatal Accident on 404

Sunday, September 18, 2016

On Saturday, September 17th 2016, at approximately 1845 hours Station 300 was alerted for a motor vehicle collision with entrapment at the intersection of Downes Station Road and Shore Hwy. Station 400 (Ridgely) and Talbot Station 80 (Queen Anne-Hillsboro) were also alerted. Rescue 300 responded quickly with 5 and officer 322. Chief 4 arrived on the scene first and took Shore Hwy command, confirming head on style collision with multiple people trapped in both vehicles.

Command requested 3 medevacs shortly after arriving due to multiple victims trapped. Rescue 300 arrived as the first Rescue unit on the scene and started extrication on one of the 2 involved vehicles. 2 patients were heavily trapped in the passenger car Rescue 300’s crew was operating on. Rescue 300 started extrication of the driver within seconds of being on seen by removing the roof and then driver's door. Eventually having to do a dash roll to remove the dash and motor off of the driver's leg. Crews from station 80 and a paramedic on the scene confirmed victim in the passenger seat was a priority 4 (deceased). The driver was extricated from vehicle and transferred to paramedic to be flown priority 1 to shock trauma. Extrication took about 30 min to get patient out. The deceased passenger was extricated from vehicle following the crash investigation. Rescue 300 was on scene for approximately 4 hours total before returning.
