Volunteers were alerted at approximately 1700 for the building fire on Franklin Street. While enroute, units were advised of the working fire by the CCSO and DPD. Engine 302 and Chief 3 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke showing on side A and fire showing from the roof on side C. E-302 deployed several hose lines and made an aggresive interiror attack with the assistance of the other first alarm companies (Ridgely, Queen Anne/Hillsboro, Greensboro). Engine 304, Rescue 300 and Tower 310 also responded as first alarm units. A second alarm was struck due to the size and construction of the building. The bulk of the fire was found in a second floor apartment and extinguished quickly. Chief 3 called the situation under control after approximately an hour. An extensive salvage and overhaul operation continued for approx 3.5 more hours. Denton volunteers were on the scene, with the Fire Marshal for nearly 5 hours.
Our appreciation to Cordova VFA for the standby crew at Station 300.
