At 1723 hours, Queen Anne-Hillsboro Deputy Chief Danny Lister advised Caroline County Communications of a house on fire in the 100 block of South 5th Avenue in Denton. Communications dispatched the 3-2 box, bringing stations 300, 400, 600, and 80.
Deputy Chief Doug Higgs (316) arrived on the scene took command of a 3-story single family dwelling with fire showing from the roof. Engine 302 arrived on the scene and pulled a 200’ 1-¾” line to the second floor. Chief Dennis Porter (315) arrived on scene and assumed 5th Ave command. E-302’s crew found the stairs to the 3rd floor were burned away, making this a labor-intensive fire. Crews from 300, 400, 600 and 80 manned several hose lines and hooked all the ceilings of the second floor to make an aggressive attack and extinguish the fire in the 3rd floor attic.
Station 200 was alerted to standby at station 300, but were redirected to the scene to assist with the overhaul operations. Units operated on the scene for 3 hours, performing an extensive overhaul.
DVFC sends its appreciation to Station 50 (Cordova) for filling in at station 300.
